On the 4th, actor Koike Teppei attended the production announcement for Fuji TV's 'Shibatora Special 2' (scheduled for broadcast in May) in Tokyo. The drama series was aired in 2008, followed by a Special episode in May 2009. On playing the baby-faced Shibata Taketora, Koike comments, "People around me are saying that I've grown old, so I wonder if it'll be alright," inducing laughter from the reporters. Once more, a new member joins - Mizobata Junpei. Both of them were winners from the JUNON Super Boy Contest Grand Prix. This will be their first drama together.

Mizobata Junpei In new TBS Detective Drama 'Shinzanmono'

Abe Hiroshi (45) plays the lead role in 'Shinzanmono', a new drama by TBS which will begin in April (Sundays, 9pm). Joining him are Mizobata Junpei (20) and Mukai Osamu (28).

Based on Higashino Keigo's novel, Abe will act as popular character detective Kaga Kyouichiro. Making his first appearance for TBS, Mizobata comments on his role as the young career-driven investigator, "The original work was full of emotions, so that's what I hope the drama will convey as well." Mukai plays the son of a murdered woman, "I've read and always liked Higashino's work. It's an honour to be involved as one of the characters." Other cast members include Kimura Yuuichi (47), Sasano Takashi (61), Harada Mieko (51) and Miura Tomokazu (58).

Mizobata Junpei To Star in Stage Production of R25's Moteryman

On the 18th, actor Mizobata Junpei (20) attended the production announcement of his stage work 'The Road of Smart Moteryman' at a studio in Tokyo's Roppongi. In the stage production adapted from a popular column of free magazine R25, a new salaryman is smitten by a beautiful OL (office lady) at first sight. Mizobata makes his appeal, "It's one that the ladies should watch." Yasuda Ken (36) will be co-starring. The stage play will run from 24th to 31st August at Tokyo's Akasaka Sougetsu Hall.

The stage play 'NECK' began on the 12th at Tokyo's Aoyama Amphitheatre, led by actor Mizobata Junpei (20).

He comments on being cast in an important role, "It's my first time in a stage play. There's a different kind of nervousness compared to the beginning of filming for a movie or drama. Since yesterday, I was tense. Today, from the time I entered the dressing room till I left it, I felt uneasy. My usual upbeat self was just gone." His co-star revealed, "Today during practice for the curtain raiser, he was so nervous he forgot about the props."

The suspense type of stage play will be followed up by a movie of the same title opening in August, also starring Mizobata. The movie will have the same motif as the stage play. The cast for NECK the movie includes Aibu Saki, Kuriyama Chiaki and Hiraoka Yuuta.

The stage play NECK ends 24 February.

The Bee TV mobile drama by AVEX and NTT Docomo 'Hidamari no Basho ~Hatsukoi~' stars Mizobata Junpei, who takes on his first delinquent role. Falling in love with Mizobata in the heroine role is young actress Renbutsu Misako. Broadcasts begin from 20th January onwards.

So far, Mizobata has been cast in the 'good guy' roles. It started from 'Akai Ito', then last year he was in 'BOSS' and 'Buzzer Beat ~Gakeppuchi no Hero~'. This year, he will be in the movies 'Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu' and 'NECK'. He opens up about the challenges of being cast in a new 'bad boy' role.

Regarding his character, "He's different from the usual delinquent who likes to show-off. He doesn't feel like he belongs, but he's a young man with adult toughness with his group of friends. He's overflowing with vitality. Because there's nowhere to channel this energy, he ends up getting into fights and mischief. While playing this role, I thought that his awkwardness about not really fitting in, a trait that many youths face, should be portrayed."

Filming was completed last year in Kofu, Yamanashi. Commenting on the filming atmosphere, "There were many guys, everyday it was like being in a boys' school. They were reserved at first, there seemed to be a hierarchy-type of relationship, but once we got back to the hotel, all the guys got into the large public bath. Since then we've all loosened up. Chatting about mundane topics, and also about the drama, we had a good time," he recalls.

Aibu Saki and Mizobata Junpei will play the lead roles in 'NECK' which opens in summer 2010. Kuriyama Chiaki and Hiraoka Yuuta are also part of the cast. The original work by Maijou Outarou is of a new 'kyun' horror genre. Playing the part of an eccentric girl is Aibu Saki, "My hairstyle has gone for an image change. I'm not a fan of horror, but let's have fun together!"

The movie version differs from the stage version which starts in February 12 2010 in Tokyo's Aoyama amphitheatre. Mizobata's character in the movie version is unlike his stage one. While the movie and stage play share the same motif, their storylines are not the same.

Aibu Saki and Mizobata Junpei star in 'kyun horror' movie!

Aibu Saki and Mizobata Junpei will star in horror movie 'NECK' that will open next summer. It is based on novelist Maijou Outarou's original work. Maijou has written two works, one for the movie and another for a stage play, both with the same motif but completely different stories.

In the movie, university student Shuto (Mizobata) is called by the classmate he has a crush on Suginara (Aibu) to her laboratory. For some reason, there is a big wooden box there that if you climb into, will cause only the head to reappear. The story begins there. Others in the story include Suginara's childhood friend, popular novelist writer Matarou (Hiraoka Yuuta) and Matarou's editor played by Kuriyama Chiaki.

This is the first time that both Aibu and Mizobata will appear in a horror movie. Aibu who plays the eccentric girl involved in the research of making ghosts said,"I have a feeling that this is going to be an eerie movie but there will be 'kyun' moments too so it won't just be straight-up horror. There are many components to it. I hope to make a Suginara that the audience will laugh with and be afraid together with." Mizobata describes his character as 'a love-sick puppy being led around by Suginara'. "It's not just a simple horror movie, as the audience laughs and feels refreshed by this movie, I also want them to shiver in fear," Mizobata said.

Filming started on 3rd November and will end later this month. The stage play will start its run on 12th February at Aoyama Theatre. Mizobata will appear in the theater production as well but with a different role. Others in the cast are Itao Itsuji, and TEAM NACS's Suzuki Kousuke and Morisaki Hiroyuki.

Mizobata Junpei chosen as 'Face of the Year' by Nikkei Trendy

Popular ikemen actor Mizobata Junpei has been chosen as information magazine Nikkei Trendy's 'Face of the Year.' He attended an event held by the magazine in Tokyo on 2nd November.

With appearances in dramas, movies and various TV programs this year, Mizobata was chosen as the 'Face' that will appear in even more works in future. "I am extremely grateful. To fulfill the expectations from this, I will re-tighten the fundoshi (brace myself) and do my utmost best," Mizobata said, using words rarely heard from young men these days.

He was asked,"What has changed since you became famous?" "The grandmothers from my hometown put me up on a pedestal and tell me, "We're glad we could meet someone we see on television before we die." That gives me mixed feelings though," Mizobata replied with a wry smile.

On the 22nd, actor Mizobata Junpei (20) who plays the lead role in 'Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu' attended the movie announcement event in Tokyo.

It's a moving film about a young man involved in Kouchi's yosakoi dance festival. "Dreams, friendship, love, life. Various themes are packed into this movie," Mizobata said. Kinami Haruka (24), who plays the role of Mizobata's girlfriend, commented "Having conversations (with Mizobata), I'd think about how great it'd be if I were a guy. Then we would be able to take baths together," she laughed. She added, "Mizobata is like an adorable dog."

On the 28th, actor Mizobata Junpei began filming 'Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu' (The Summer You Danced) at a bridge in Ochichou. Filming will take about 1 month in Kouchi city, including its shopping district. Tentative release of the movie is autumn of 2010.

The main character is a young man who aims of being a photographer in Tokyo. He joins the Yosakoi Festival to fulfill the dream of a young girl (Ayane Omori) with an incurable disease. Together with her older sister (Kinami Haruka), they revive the Yosakoi Team, breathing life into the festival. Through the Yosakoi Festival, themes surrounding dreams and reality, and life and death are explored.

There were about 70 people, including staff members on the first day of filming. When the rain stopped, a camera in the river filmed a scene of Mizobata cycling on a bridge. He stops in the middle, takes a seat and gives a worried look.

Mizobata said "I've been looking forward to the start of filming. To continue chasing your dream, while upholding local traditions, I want to convey the importance of them both."

The Kochi Film Commission is taking applications for 1000 extras for filming on the 16th and 17th October. Details can be found here.

A familiar face for the Aoyama Suit Collection CMs, Aibu Saki also made her appearance on stage. "It's the first time I'm seeing so many ladies, it makes me nervous." Japan's biggest summer festival, the Yosakoi Festival which originated from the Kouchi Prefecture, is the stage for an emotionally charged movie. Current popular young actor, Mizobata Junpei will play the lead in "Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu" (The Summer You Danced).

Mizobata-san's character, Shinpei, moves from Kouchi to Tokyo to be a professional photographer. 5 years later, fatigued by life in Tokyo, he returns to his hometown. He meets his ex-girlfriend, Kaori. They had once made a promise to move to Tokyo together. For the sake of her sister (Sakura), Kaori wants to grant her a dying wish. That wish was for Shinpei and Kaori to be in the legendary team of Yosakoi dance once again, "Ichimujin". Shinpei understands Kaori's feelings, and decides to participate in the Yosakoi dance, but...

Playing the role of the heroine Kaori is Kinami Haruka, an upcoming actress who was also in 20th Century Boys. Her character struggles to fulfill the wish of Sakura (Ayane Omori) who suffers from an incurable disease.

For 3 days from the 8th to 10th August, filming had begun during the real Yosakoi Festival. Mizobata-san who was there to observe the festival, "Everyone's enthusiasm is overwhelming, it's more than what I had imagined. It's a good feeling, protecting tradition... What surprised me the most was that even under the blazing sun, everyone was dancing with a smile. I will work hard to deliver a good movie which will display Kouchi's tradition."

Filming will be from end of September till November. Tentative release is autumn of 2010. 3/4 of filming is planned to be in Kouchi, filming in the city area is slated to be in October. A repeat of the Yosakoi Festival has been arranged.

Hatano Shuuji: Mizobata Junpei-san's Birthday!

On the 14th of June, Mizobata Junpei who plays the role of Hatano Shuuji as a pro basketball player for the JC ARCS team on Buzzer Beat ~Gakeppuchi no Hero~ celebrated his 20th birthday.

His JC ARCS team mates, Kamiya Naoki (Yamashita Tomohisa), Yoyogi Ren (Kaneko Nobuaki), Moriguchi Shuto (Aoki Munetaka) and captain Utsunomiya Toru (Nagai Masaru) gave him a birthday surprise.

Mizobata was touched as he received a bouquet of flowers and presents from Yamashita.

"It is refreshing to celebrate with this uniform on. I was happy although the celebration was just as guys. When I met everyone in the morning, they said things like 'You're 20 now', 'You can drink ne'. Everyone was such good big brothers. I feel like I've joined the adult world. Now that I'm 20, I aspire... I wonder what it is? But what I aspire for this drama is that my shoots will be accurate and to be a regular player [laugh]."

[Cinema Today Movie News] Starring in the movie and drama series Akai Ito, Nao Minamisawa and Mizobata Junpei share their thoughts about fate encounters prior to the DVD release. The red thread that binds 2 people together as actors, Minamisawa and Mizobata, what are their fate encounters?

Akai Ito is the red thread that binds the fate of 2 people together... that's the romantic theme which everyone is familiar with, but it also includes serious topics. Minamisawa plays a role whose character parts from a close friend and experiences the death of another, which leaves her in an emotional turmoil. Due to circumstances at home, it was decided that she could not stay together with the person she likes, Atsushi, played by Mizobata. "Even if both parties were to get hurt, personally I would rather have a discussion because you never know, there could be other more favourable options. Playing this role, I had to cast those thoughts away," he said.

These type of fate encounters, have they experienced it? Minamisawa replied, "I think being talent scouted, and as a result being here right now in this (entertainment) world, was definitely a chance encounter." Mizobata echoes her thoughts, "I feel that destiny has led me to where I am now, being able to have this job. Given this opportunity, and being able to do what I do, I am very happy. I believe that fate gives rise to the situations surrounding us." Right now, with both of them focusing only on their work, it seems that meeting that fated someone will have to wait a little bit longer.

The cellphone novel had a total of 3.6 million hits before it was turned into a series of novels. The main crux of Akai Ito is the love story between two people bounded by fate. Set in a modern day high school, the drama depicts the realities of group dynamics. It is overwhelmingly popular among middle and high school students, and has led to breakthrough roles for the two leading actors. Actor Mizobata Junpei (19) recorded the CM narration for Disney's "High School Musical The Movie" blue-ray DVD (on sale June 10, 4935 yen) and DVD (3360 yen) at a studio in the Metropolitan area on 28 May. The movie depicts the story about a group of high school students who are anticipating their imminent graduation.

Mizobata shared a memory from his high school days. "I really liked the culture festival. I danced wearing girl's clothes. Borrowing my (older) sister's bra and mini-skirt, I sang Kumi Koda's 'Butterfly'. I thought I was good, but children began leaving," he laughed. Recently, while on location filming BOSS, he asked Toda Erika who was putting on make-up "Is it fun?". "Yup it is~" was the reply. Now Mizobata has begun to practise curling his eyelashes.

On turning 20 on the 14th of next month, "I'll work hard and be dutiful to my parents. Being an adult = filial piety. That's what it means to me." It's his way of 'graduating' from being a child. The CM will air from 6 June onwards.

Summer Drama

Good evening! !

I think many people already know this, but I'll be in a Getsu 9 drama from July onwards, which stars the cool Yamashita Tomohisa-san.

It's a story about management of a basketball club. I've begun practising basketball, today too I'll be heading for practice in the evening after work with the rest of the cast members and coach (^_^)v

It's the first time that I'm learning how to play proper basketball, these practices are really tough but fun. The atmosphere is enjoyable as men's conversations are taking place!! (^O^)

I will provide more information once the details are ironed out.

Tomorrow too, I will work hard for the filming of BOSS!! (*^o^*)

I paid special attention to the severe comments, and take them sincerely.

I'm in a position where I should be repaying the fans' kindness and support for me, but my careless behaviour, as was reported, has instead caused concern. Upon reflecting on the matter, once again, I am truly sorry.

It's been 2 years since I've arrived in Tokyo, and I have been blessed with work. I might have lost sight of what is most important.

There were times when thoughts like "I don't seem to be myself" or "I didn't use to be this way" crept in. I disregarded the advice and attention from my family and the people surrounding me. I gave in to temptation at the expense of my job.

Because of my folly, such events have arisen, and it is now that I fully realize that I had forgotten what is most important to me.

For the warm-hearted fans who might be hurt, the trouble that I have caused to my family and staff and betraying the trust that you have put in me, I am deeply sorry.

I am really grateful for the work that I have right now.

I have reflected on my self-conceit and lack of vigilance, and recalled back the feelings that I had during the time of my debut. I'm taking this experience as an opportunity for self-renewal, and to persevere in my daily work.

To the fans who were worried about me, thank you.

So here's the breakdown.

* Late one night, Junpei together with 3 guys and 3 girls went to a restaurant in Shibuya. Junpei was seen leaning his head on the shoulder of a tipsy Reina.

* After they left the restaurant, they went for karaoke.

* At some point in time, the 3 guys left, leaving Junpei with his harem.

* After that, one of the girls took a cab and left.

* Junpei, Reina and Satoumi left the karaoke place.

* The 3 of them took a cab and headed to Reina's place.

* They spent 5 hours there then Junpei and Satoumi left Reina's place together.

* Walking close together, they dropped by a convenience store, bought drinks and stuff and headed to Satoumi's place.

Comment from Junpei. "That evening was the first time I met Satoumi-san. As pointed out by Friday-san, I went to her house. I am conscious of the fact that Satoumi-san is a beautiful lady of the opposite sex. I will reflect on this incident deeply."

Actor Mizobata Junpei (19) held a handshake event at Ginza on the 20th of March to commemorate the sale of his first photo book 'Neppuu Shonen' (Fiery Winds of a Youth). 7000 fans lined up to meet him, with some fans bursting into tears.

"It's packed with myself in these last years of my teens." The photobook features sexy shots of him in locations like hot springs and beaches.

When I had free time at yesterday's filming, I went to the park and took this photo, where the children were playing (^_^)v

The 2 of them were such well-behaved and good children!!

I've been at home, enjoying the New Year holidays with family and friends o(^-^)o

It's already 2009!! When I was younger, I imagined that by this time it would be possible for flying cars to exist, just like in Back to the Future (￣∀￣)

I'm feeling nervous as it is a live broadcast!! (laugh)
